IWH, JCorp To Jointly Build 8,300 Affordable Houses Under PR1MA

Johor Corporation (JCorp) and Iskandar Waterfront Holdings Sdn Bhd (IWH) will jointly develop 8,300 units of affordable houses under the 1Malaysia Housing Programme (PR1MA). The 8,300 new houses, the construction of which will begin late this year and completed by late 2015, will be made available to eligible applicants in nine locations within the Johor Bahru district.

IWH Managing Director Tan Sri Lim Kang Hoo said there would be a good choice of apartments, townhouses or detached single-storey houses to match individual budgets and family requirements.

“The location of the projects in sub-urban areas was carefully selected for easy accessibility to the city here and to provide a ready pool of labour to neighbouring industries and the services sector, ” he said in a statement.

The houses would be built in prime locations with good road connectivity and public amenities, he added. A comprehensive range of services like community halls, playgrounds, kindergartens, mosques and clinics would also be provided. IWH is undertaking the development of these PR1MA houses as part of its corporate social responsibility programme.

IWH, which is the master developer of prime waterfront land here, is the landowner and developer of three of the projects in Danga Bay, Plentong and Masai offering a total of 5,000 units.

An additional six projects with 3,300 houses will also be built by IWH under a joint-venture with JCorp in Tebrau, Ulu Tiram, Kempas, Larkin and Pasir Gudang.

PR1MA will manage the balloting of all the 8,300 units, priced about 20 per cent below prevailing market prices, when they are ready. The 8,300 additional affordable houses under PR1MA is part of 25,000 similar houses planned to be built by several developers within Iskandar Malaysia as announced by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in Kulaijaya yesterday.

25,500 PR1MA house in Johor

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today announced the building of 25,500 affordable housing units in the Iskandar Malaysia region, here, under the Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA) scheme.

Najib said the project, carried out in collaboration with PR1MA Berhad and five private housing development companies, would be completed within three years.

He said the market price of each unit was RM250,000, but through the public-private sector partnership in the form of funds from the government, the project could be expedited with the houses to be sold at below the market price.

“The original market price offered by the developer was RM250,000 but through facilitation by the government, the price would be 199,000 only.

“This is a big discount of RM51,000 or over 20 per cent through the contribution of funds from the government,” he said at the drawing of lots for the Nusantara PR1MA affordable housing units at Dewan Raya, Bandar Putra, here, today. – Bernama

SPNB to implement PR1MA in Penang

The 1Malaysia People’s Housing Project (PR1MA) in Penang will be implemented by Syarikat Perumahan Nasional Berhad (SPNB), Penang Regional Development Authority (Perda) and JKP Sdn Bhd.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said the Federal government agencies were given the job to build affordable housing.

“My worry is that the projects can’t take off as the Penang government is deliberately delaying their approval,” he told reporters after a meeting of the Penang Federal Development Council here Friday.

Nor Mohamed who is also MP for Tasek Gelugor said that several affordable housing projects given to Perda and JKP Sdn Bhd have yet to be approved by the Penang government.

“The plans were submitted three years ago.

“I hope the Penang government will consider approving the housing projects in the interest of the people,” he added. – Bernama
